Western Visayas Sanitarium (WVS) is located in Barangay Inangayan and Barangay Bolong Oeste, Santa Barbara, Iloilo. It was established in June 1927 as a Treatment Station for Leprosy Patients. In May 30, 2005, through Administrative Order 2005-0013, WVS expanded its services from just a Leprosarium to a General Hospital which provides the five basic major services: Medical, Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine and Pediatrics. A 50-Bed General Hospital Main Building was inaugurated and opened in January 2010 to cater to the fast growing number of patients. WVS, however, is still a referral hospital for leprosy patients in the Western Visayas Region.
WVS is now a Level I, 50-bed General Hospital with an Authorized Bed Capacity of 300 (150 beds for General Care and 150 beds for Leprosy Care) and Implementing Bed Capacity of 200 (50 beds for General Care and 150 beds for Leprosy Care). It is a Department of Health retained hospital. WVS is recognized as a Center for Safety by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC).
Amenities include: 50-bed Main Hospital General Care Building, OPD, Infectious Diseases Facility, Leprosy Custodial and Infirmary, HEMS Office, Training and Conference, Dietary, Supplies, Maintenance, Physical Rehabilitation, Roman Catholic Church, Franco Memorial Baptist Church, Prayer Chapel, Morgue, Tennis Court, and WVS Elementary School.
Services offered are: Emergency Medical Services, General Care Service (Medical, Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine and Pediatrics), Leprosy Care Services, Out Patient Services, Laboratory, Radiology, Major and Minor Surgeries, Pharmacy, Medical Social Services, PhilHealth Services and General Administrative Services.
Last December 16, 2014, WVS was certified by AJA Registrars as an ISO 9001:2008 certified hospital for Healthcare services and Residency Training Program.
As of March 31, 2015, WVS has 133 plantilla personnel distributed into three major divisions namely: Medical Service, Nursing Service, and Hospital Operations and Patient Support Service. It also has an existing accredited training program: the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
